Qatar plans to announce a defence production hub, its defence minister said in Doha on Monday, 19 October, according to Reuters reporting.

Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani outlined the proposal at the Global Security Forum. He said Qatar was working with a regional partner and established allies, including the United States, the United Kingdom and France, on local capabilities and possible investment in defence companies.

Defence production hub: what is known

The minister said a partnership announcement would follow. He did not name the regional partner or provide further details about the proposed production hub.

The remarks signal a planned initiative rather than the opening of an operational facility. Its location, cost and delivery timetable remain unclear in the reporting available.

Missile, drone and cyber threats

Asked about ballistic missiles, drones and cyberattacks, Sheikh Saoud said Qatar was preparing a partnership to develop capabilities against those threats and others.

The discussion comes as the conflict involving Iran has affected Gulf states. Reuters reported disruption to Qatar’s liquefied natural gas operations at Ras Laffan and shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.

Forum focuses on the future of alliances

The 2026 Global Security Forum runs in Doha from 19 to 21 October under the theme “The Future of Alliances”. Its organisers are the Soufan Center and the Qatar International Academy for Security Studies.

The event brings officials and security specialists together to discuss international cooperation and emerging threats. Qatar’s proposed hub adds an industrial dimension to those discussions, but further announcements are needed to establish its scope.
